Building Christlike family relationships
Families Unite Through Christ
I have really enjoyed learning about Enoch and how he and his people were able to create a Zion community in the midst of so much surrounding wickedness. It is inspiring to see that even in difficult and hostile circumstances, a people could choose righteousness and unity.
In many ways, we live in a similar time. We are constantly told that our beliefs and values are outdated, silly, or even ridiculous. Because of this, it is more important than ever that we focus on the kind of Zion values we are teaching in our homes and living in our daily lives.
As Enoch preached to his people, we can assume there were challenges. Surely not everyone was perfect in their efforts to become a Zion people. There must have been struggles and setbacks along the way.
It is the same for us in our families and wards. We listen to the prophet, attend our meetings, and love our families with all our hearts and souls. We know we are not perfect and that we will stumble from time to time. But at the end of the day, we can feel peace and even pride in simply doing a little better than we did the day before.
I love what Alma taught his people at the waters of Mormon:
“There should be no contention one with another, but that they should look forward with one eye, having one faith and one baptism, having their hearts knit together in unity and in love one towards another.”
In Enoch’s day, the Lord called His people Zion because they were “of one heart and one mind.” The word one stands out. It is a word the prophets and the Savior often use to help us focus on what truly matters—one heart, one mind, one faith, one eye.
As we worship together in our homes and in our meetings, may our hearts be knit together in unity. May we focus on one thing at a time that we can improve, striving to become a little more Zion-like in our homes and in our community each day.
