Building Christlike family relationships
Families Unite Through Christ
Welcome to summer! I hope you are all having or planning on some wonderful adventures or vacations this season.
As I listened to conference this April I began to notice how often the speakers brought the Savior into their remarks. I started paying attention and noting every instance. It was pretty amazing. It seemed that every speaker mentioned him.
I must confess that I typically like conference talks that address specific black and white topics that I can head nod and say “amen” to. But our world isn’t black and white anymore. We must use our own power of personal revelation to sort through this complicated time.
President Nelson said, “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost”.
If we get to know the Savior better and not just know about him, this personal revelation will come and we can sort through the life issues that we know will come.
Our modern prophets have emphasized using the correct name of our church to remind us that Jesus Christ is and should be our focus. Getting back to the basics is a good place for all of us to start with getting to know our Savior better.
In John when the disciples started falling away Jesus asked the twelve apostles, “Will ye also go away?”
“Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.”
The Savior has all we need in our quest for eternal life. We just need to take advantage of our special position as members of His church and use the tools and information given to help us secure a solid testimony of him. Then the personal revelation we need will come much easier to traverse the challenges of this new and complex world.
I add my testimony to that of the apostles:“His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.
God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.”
Love, Bro. Houtz
Family Spotlight
The Hinds Family
We are the Hinds Family. We have 3 daughters, a son, a son-in-law, and coming soon (October 2026) a granddaughter!! With the exception of the 4 years we lived in Boston, Mapleton has always been home.
Rorie will be a senior at BYU this fall majoring in finance. This summer she is doing an internship with Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City. Thomas is a pharmacy tech in Salem. He recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in public health. Randyn will be in the 9th grade this fall. She works hard at developing her piano skills and plays the bass in her school orchestra. She loves to ski and especially loves hanging out with friends. Rylie and Joey both work full-time and bought a house in Mapleton last summer. They are expecting their first baby in October!
Kris is currently a corporate engineer for Nestle. After 31 years with Nestle, he will be retiring in December and making a career change. I love that I have the opportunity to take care of our family full time. It's the best job!!
We love Mapleton and are so thankful for great neighbors, friends, and a wonderful ward family!!!
